Rumore Cocktail Bar: A Retro-Inspired Nightlife Destination in Milan

PROJECTS 09.01.24

Just a stone's throw from Beefbar Milan, designers Emil Humbert and Christophe Poyet of Humbert & Poyet unveil their latest venture: Rumore, a hidden cocktail bar that redefines retro elegance with a modern twist. Accessible through a concealed entrance, this nocturnal treasure draws inspiration from the vibrancy of Italian culture and the iconic aesthetics of 1970s television sets.

The ambiance is an inviting mix of warmth and intrigue, anchored by a bold red carpet featuring psychedelic patterns crafted by renowned fashion designer Sara Battaglia. Adding to the allure, mid-century-inspired red velvet chairs create a striking contrast with stylised leopard print accents and green ceramic tables with unique octagonal tops. Discreet alabaster lamps, designed by Humbert & Poyet, lend a soft glow, enhancing the eclectic charm of the space.

At the center of the room, the stage takes pride of place. A striking backdrop of frosted and 3D glass panels emits a soft, atmospheric glow, featuring curved motifs that pay homage to the Art Deco aesthetic—a defining element of the designers' style.

Adding to the drama, long, flowing curtains frame the stage, while a dazzling disco ball scatters playful reflections. Overlooking the scene is an elevated DJ booth, its polished mirrored surface radiating a sultry, captivating allure.

More intimate than the main area, the bar counter provides seating for around twenty guests on high leopard-upholstered stools. From this vantage point, patrons can admire a meticulously curated display of liquors, evoking the charm of a speakeasy. The venue features a preserved antique fireplace, its interior mirrors creating a striking visual effect. The space is further enriched with fluted wood panelling up to mid-height, topped by graphic wall coverings inspired by the bold aesthetics of the 1980s.

Rumore also distinguishes itself with an expertly curated art collection, entrusted to the gallery Amélie, Maison d’art. The abundance of wall-mounted artworks reflects a spirit of freedom and resonates with the vibrant energy of the venue. The intimate stage, reminiscent of classic cabaret settings, fosters interaction and offers an unforgettable experience. Guests are promised evenings that flow between the sophistication of a jazz performance and the uninhibited energy of a night filled with endless possibilities. In every detail—from the custom furniture to the evocative lighting—Humbert & Poyet capture the essence of la dolce vita, weaving a narrative of celebration, style, and Italian refinement.

Founded in Monaco in 2008, the interior design and architecture agency Humbert & Poyet has become a global reference in high-end residential projects, as well as the hospitality and restaurant sectors. The agency’s innovative approach to creating versatile spaces stems from the dynamic partnership between its founders, Emil Humbert and Christophe Poyet.

With a shared passion for design and fashion, the duo has developed a signature style characterised by the use of exceptional materials, expert craftsmanship, and a unique interplay of shapes and volumes. Their spaces often integrate curated artworks, ensuring each project resonates with artistic depth and sophistication.
