In the Dahlem Villa by Fabian Freytag Studio, a bold radial pattern sweeps across the ceiling, creating a visual compass that centres the space. Paired with dusky pink walls and sleek furnishings, the ceiling’s vibrant design elevates the room, drawing the gaze upward and adding a sense of playful elegance.

Martin Kobus takes a darker, more dramatic approach. In a moody salon, a hand-painted mural graces the vaulted ceiling with swirling golden brushstrokes that dance against a matte black backdrop. Combined with plush velvet seating, a sculptural chandelier, and glossy black walls, the ceiling becomes a dynamic theatre of light and shadow, immersing the viewer in a world of glamour and sophistication.

At the Sunita Shekhawat Museum-Gallery, the ceiling is adorned with intricate botanical frescoes that seem to spill from the edges of the walls. The delicate, hand-painted greenery lends a sense of continuity and natural rhythm, making the ceiling feel like a living extension of the space. The result is a seamless blend of art and architecture that envelops visitors in a serene, verdant canopy.

In a contemporary residence by Cxema, a bold, graphic mural breaks free from traditional boundaries. A circular section of the ceiling is transformed into an abstract map of vibrant colours and geometric lines, contrasting strikingly with the warm red walls below. This playful statement piece adds a sense of movement and modernity, proving that ceilings are ripe for artistic expression.

GCG commissioned artist Sacha Floch Poliakoff to create a ceiling mural in a Paris apartment evoking ancient Greek landscapes. Painted in delicate, airy strokes with clouds of colour, the artwork hovers above bookshelves and teak furnishings, adding a narrative dimension that’s both timeless and whimsical.

These ceilings do more than cap off a room, they inspire, surprise, and transform. With every glance upward, they remind us that art isn’t limited to walls and floors, it can soar above, inviting us to look up and dream.
