Stairways to Heaven

In the world of interiors, staircases transcend functionality. They become fluid sculptural forms, commanding attention and elevating space into a three-dimensional gallery. This curated selection of six striking staircases, each crafted by a visionary designer, explores how materiality, form, and light come together to create sculptural statements in architecture.

In Paris, designer Dora Hart collaborated with Bill Amberg Studio to transform a classic Haussmannian space with a leather-clad spiral staircase. Each curve is wrapped in hand-dyed, burnished leather, which enhances the structure’s organic sweep. Natural light spilling through adjacent windows accentuates the texture and deep, earthy hues, while sculptural wall curves echo the staircase’s elegant arcs.

Moving into the realm of contemporary luxury, the staircase, complemented by the Kuulas chandelier by Cameron Design House and designed by Isabel Gomez Studio, captures attention with its copper-like metallic sheen. This sinuous, wrap-around form is paired with a cascade of green orbs—an unexpected chandelier that plays with scale and reflection. The verdant tones contrast against the warmth of the staircase, adding a theatrical flourish that brings the design to life.

At the HIDE restaurant, the staircase with its organic curves take center stage. This intricately crafted timber staircase, inspired by nature’s forms, uses interlaced wooden ribbons that twist and fold into a mesmerizing flow. Its interplay of light and shadow, amplified by strategic spotlighting, transforms every step into a sculptural gesture. The craftsmanship resonates with quiet strength, inviting touch and admiration.

A bold statement unfolds in a space adorned with a lacquered orange staircase. High-gloss surfaces catch light at every turn, while Haara Metsa, a custom, branch-like chandelier by Cameron Design House dances overhead. The combination creates a dynamic visual interplay, where light fixtures mirror the sinuous lines of the stairwell, emphasising its drama.

Each staircase in this collection reveals the designer’s dedication to transforming utility into art. Whether through material mastery, calculated lighting, or dramatic form, these staircases redefine movement and perception—inviting us to ascend into spaces where architecture meets sculpture.
