Leivars - Pied à Terre St Johns Wood

PROJECTS

In London’s distinguished St John’s Wood, LEIVARS Interiors Studio has crafted a compact pied-à-terre into a captivating home that blends Art Deco-inspired details with a fresh contemporary feel. Commissioned by a returning client—CEO of an international luxury brand—this project, affectionately dubbed “Coco House,” marks the third collaboration between designer and client, reflecting a deep mutual understanding and shared aesthetic vision.

The brief was ambitious: to completely reconfigure the space, introducing a home office, maximizing natural light, and infusing the interiors with subtle nods to Art Deco elegance, all while maintaining undertones of femininity and drama. LEIVARS responded by stripping the apartment back to its bones, then rebuilding it as a cohesive, high-impact interior that feels both expansive and intimate.

A focal point of the design is a beautifully detailed, full-length fireplace made from fluted marble. This low-level, linear feature not only anchors the open-plan living and dining area but also draws the eye toward the rear patio, creating a seamless indoor-outdoor connection. The fireplace's vertical fluting adds a sense of height, enhancing the room's proportions and serving as a tactile focal point. Incorporating a bioethanol fire introduces warmth and visual interest during cooler months.

The material palette is deliberately restrained yet rich in texture and tone. Emerald velvet upholstery on both the sofa and banquette seating injects a bold splash of colour, while brass accents provide a touch of opulence without overwhelming the space. By limiting the color scheme to three primary hues and using brass solely as an accent, the design achieves a sense of cohesion and visual clarity.

In the upper rooms, LEIVARS opened up the master bedroom to the en suite, creating a more expansive and connected space. Pale pink painted ceilings add contrast to the bedrooms and a vintage chandelier adds a dramatic, sculptural element. The en suite bathroom is adorned with Calacatta Rose marble in the shower and bathing area, complemented by a bespoke fluted black ash vanity unit. Antique gold mirrors enhance the sense of space and introduce warm, reflective surfaces.

Coco House has garnered industry acclaim, earning a shortlist position for the Interior Design Scheme – London Award in The International Design and Architecture Awards 2022. This recognition underscores LEIVARS Interiors Studio's ability to blend historical references with contemporary design, crafting spaces that are both timeless and tailored to the client's lifestyle.
