Rising gracefully above the city of Lucerne, the Hotel Art Deco Montana presents a refreshed identity, thanks to Swiss designer Ina Rinderknecht’s meticulous renovation of its public spaces. This lakeside landmark, with breathtaking views of Lake Lucerne and the Swiss Alps, now blends Art Deco grandeur with contemporary elegance, creating a sanctuary of refined luxury.

The large windows offer a mesmerising backdrop of Lake Lucerne, blending natural beauty with architectural elegance. The high ceilings, paired with glass doors and wood details, create an airy, welcoming atmosphere that perfectly balances tradition and modernity.

In contrast to the light-filled Scala, the Hemingway Rum & Cigar Lounge embraces darker, moodier tones, evoking an intimate and masculine ambiance. Dark green leather benches, camel-brown hues and bronze accents envelop the space, while custom Maxalto lounge chairs offer plush comfort.

Named after legendary jazz trumpeter Louis Armstrong, the Louis Bar has undergone a remarkable transformation. The space radiates warmth and vibrancy with a stunning curved bar paired with polished wood and an elegant chandelier, making it an inviting spot to savor whiskey or cocktails.

The guest suites at Hotel Art Deco Montana are a study in understated luxury. Featuring soft pinks, blues, and greens that echo the hues of Lake Lucerne and the surrounding Alps, the rooms exude tranquility and elegance. Custom headboards upholstered in textured pink wallpaper by Philipp Jeffries add a refined touch, while Dedar fabrics lend a hint of shimmer to the accent pillows, celebrating Art Deco’s glamour with a contemporary twist.
The furniture, all custom-made, combines comfort with style. Curved armchairs, sleek side tables, and plush sofas enhance the lounge areas within the rooms, creating spaces that feel cozy yet sophisticated. The floors, finished in a warm natural oak with a modern take on traditional herringbone patterns, provide a beautiful contrast to the bronze accents found in lighting fixtures and accessories.

Art plays an essential role in Rinderknecht’s vision. The final, delicate touches in the suites are limited-edition pieces by fine art photographer Soo Burnell. Her pastel-hued works subtly reinforce the calm, ethereal ambiance of the rooms, tying the design narrative together in perfect harmony.

The bathrooms, designed with mosaic floors by Bisazza, reflect a contemporary reinterpretation of the hotel's original tiled floors. The geometric patterns, presented in soft pastel tones, continue the serene color scheme seen throughout the hotel. The walls, finished with white glazed tiles, frame sleek vanities featuring ceramic basins from Kartell by Laufen and fixtures from Grohe’s ‘Essence’ line in a rich, metallic ‘
Through her redesign, Ina Rinderknecht has successfully bridged the hotel’s Art Deco heritage with contemporary design. Every space tells a story of history, craft, and modern sophistication.
