Artful Living in the Heart of the Marais
PROJECTS 09.01.24
The Apartment Rue des Archives, designed by Emil Humbert and Christophe Poyet, is a 250 m² masterpiece situated in Paris' desirable Marais district. Embodying a blend of classical architectural elements and modernist aesthetics, this elegant residence is thoughtfully arranged across two floors: the first dedicated to reception and entertainment, and the second reserved for private bedrooms, creating a harmonious flow between social and intimate spaces.

A grand terrazzo-floored entrance greets visitors, highlighted by custom brass railing and handles, setting a sophisticated tone. The hallway features an original Keith Haring painting, Le Corbusier's 1950s Sling chairs and a Jean Prouvé chest with vintage ceramics. The large brass and opaline suspension in the stairwell designed by Humbert and Poyet draws the eye upward, enhancing the sense of height and grandeur of the home.

The living area balances art and comfort, featuring mid-century furnishings and carefully selected artworks, including pieces by Bertrand Lavier, Georges Jouve, and Robert Mapplethorpe. It is a curated showcase of Humbert & Poyet's design mastery, where nearly every element, from the Theodore armchairs and sofa to the Gabrielle coffee table and custom wooden shelving, embodies their signature blend of modern sophistication and timeless charm. A stately marble fireplace of their design grounds the room with understated grandeur adding to the drama of the living room.

The kitchen, a mix of elegance and practicality, features a Humbert & Poyet designed cabinet in a rich Farrow & Ball shade, accented with brass. Arasbecato marble adds depth, while Bassam Fellows' Tractor stools provide understated luxury. The over-sized Asterios suspension light completes the room's polished atmosphere.
A bespoke chandelier made of metal and alabaster illuminates the gold Apolline dining table, paired with Gio Ponti’s Superleggera chairs. A bold wall art piece by Katja Strunz adds an architectural dimension to the dining space, echoing the designers' affinity for modernist and art deco styles.
The master bedroom is a sanctuary of understated luxury to exude warmth and refinement through carefully curated details like the brass-framed doors and bespoke bedside tables. Anchored by a plush Flexform bed and accented with iconic furnishings such as Franco Albini’s floor lamps, the room blends modern design with an artful, serene ambiance.
The bathroom combines deep black antique French marble by Zatti Interiors with Arabescato marble, creating a striking contrast. Brass-framed mirrors designed by Humbert & Poyet and table décor by Kelly Wearstler add opulent finishing touches.
Humbert & Poyet’s design for the Apartment Rue des Archives integrates art deco, modernist, and Memphis influences while honoring classical architectural codes. It’s a residence that not only accommodates family life but also celebrates art, design, and timelessness in every detail.
