A Luxurious and Lively Home in Luxembourg by Victoria Maria

PROJECTS 09.01.24

German-born, Brussels-based interior designer Victoria Maria, has created an extraordinary transformation. Nestled in the heart of Luxembourg City, a townhouse undergoes a spectacular transformation. This 320m² double-faced townhouse, is home to a vibrant family of five, and was given a complete overhaul to suit the dynamic personalities of its owners—two parents and their three teenage boys. The renovation centres on a striking two-storey library, setting the tone for the entire house, which is brimming with bold design choices and eclectic touches.

The entrance sets the stage for the dynamic design language found throughout the property. Elitis 'La caravane Kungbo' wall covering introduces a rich, textured backdrop, evoking a sense of adventure and worldliness. The door and cabinet handles by Bonnemazou-Cambus add refined, bespoke details to the space. A carefully curated powder room features a stunning mirror by VP Interiorismo and a statement chandelier from Volker Haug, bringing the space together with a touch of whimsy and sophistication.

The heart of the home, the kitchen, is a luxurious haven designed to reflect both elegance and warmth. The pairing of Saint Laurent marble with brass and walnut creates an effortlessly stylish environment. Zanat’s beautifully crafted walnut salad bowls serve as both functional and decorative elements, adding an artisanal touch. The choice of materials flows seamlessly into the adjoining dining area, which serves as an extension of the kitchen’s design ethos. A striking walnut sideboard is complemented by a bold painting by Kevin Denis, exhibited by Imperium ART Gallery. Beneath it, ceramic parrot candlesticks stand out, adding playful charm.

The dining table, made from smooth cream lime concrete by Arte Plus BV, creates a tactile connection to the earth while the rich Le Manach fabric dining chairs (from Pierre Frey) offer a punch of color and texture. A vintage Iranian "Allasht" rug from Edelgrund grounds the room, adding further depth to the design. Above, a chandelier crafted from Murano glass and brass by Glustin Creations adds a layer of sophistication to the space.

The living room is a testament to the power of bold color and unexpected materials. The custom-designed two-level bookcase in striking orange lacquer becomes the room’s focal point, showcasing the homeowners' charismatic personalities and love for unique, vibrant design.

The living room also boasts a luxurious “Wenceslas” sofa from HEIMAT by Victoria-Maria, upholstered in a rich fabric that complements the warm hues of the surrounding space. Paired with this is a coffee table crafted from petrified wood and a bronze base by Glustin Creations. A plush blue silk knotted rug adds a sophisticated touch of luxury underfoot, contrasting beautifully with the vivid orange.

Two "Swivel" armchairs by Heisler, positioned for conversational ease, bring movement and functionality to the space. Cream curtains from Pierre Frey frame the expansive windows, softening the room's vibrant hues. Antique ceramic vases further highlight the eclectic spirit of the design, mixing old and new in perfect harmony.

The stairway, one of the home's most striking features, showcases Le Manach’s (Pierre Frey) “Vertige” motif woven into a stair carpet. The intricate pattern serves as a work of art that elevates the home’s design from functional to extraordinary, reflecting the creative flair that permeates every inch of the space.

In the office, the designers opted for an elegant straw covering by Jim Thompson (Pierre Frey) for a sophisticated natural finish. The serene environment allows for both work and creativity to flow effortlessly, offering a perfect retreat for studious times.

The TV room’s playful nature is immediately evident, as Stella McCartney’s “Fungi” wallpaper for Cole & Son envelops the walls and ceiling in whimsical detail. The Maries Corner sofa, upholstered in Arsène fabric from Pierre Frey, creates a cosy centerpiece, inviting relaxation. Custom ottomans in matching fabric provide additional seating and colour contrast. The room’s mood is further elevated by a soft, warm light filtering through floor-length curtains.

The master bedroom is a serene sanctuary, boasting exquisite details with the headboard being the focal point. Leather tiles designed by Gio Ponti for Studioart line the walls behind the bed, lending a tactile elegance that contrasts with the softness of the velvet. Arteriors' wall lamps provide ambient lighting, ensuring the room exudes a soft, inviting glow. A striking painting by Thomas Dielman—entitled Bernice—adds a thoughtful and personal touch to the overall design, as seen in the detailed image of the space.

The bathrooms are no exception to the home’s luxurious design narrative. A terrazzo finish, paired with a sleek Flos lamp, creates an aura of refined elegance. The harmonious balance of materials, from the grain of the wooden vanity to the sheen of the terrazzo tiles.

Victoria Maria's Alfred project in Luxembourg is an impressive example of how design can reflect the personality and energy of its inhabitants. Every room tells a story through the use of bold colors, luxurious materials, and custom-designed elements that emphasize the homeowners' vibrant, extroverted nature. The meticulous attention to detail that went into every element of this extraordinary home is simply stunning.
