W Algarve by AB Concept
HOSPITALITY PROJECTS
Set high on the cliffs of Portugal’s southern coastline, W Algarve redefines the idea of a coastal retreat. Rather than imposing itself on the landscape, the hotel moves with it, shaped by the rhythms, textures and light of the Atlantic. It is a project that feels less like a statement and more like a conversation with its surroundings.

Designed by AB Concept, the architecture draws directly from the Algarve’s most iconic natural formations, particularly the Benagil caves. Their softened edges, carved over centuries by wind and water, are echoed in the building’s fluid forms. There is a deliberate absence of rigidity here. Lines curve, spaces open, and light is allowed to travel, creating a sense of movement that mirrors the coastline itself.
This approach continues seamlessly inside. The interiors are layered with references to the sea, not in a literal sense, but through form, material and atmosphere. In the W Lounge, curved seating recalls the gentle geometry of shells, while above, hand-blown glass lamps in shades of turquoise and deep green float like suspended droplets. They catch the light throughout the day, casting shifting reflections that feel almost aquatic.

Materiality deepens the narrative. Rich marbles, reflective surfaces, and tactile finishes work together to create depth and visual rhythm throughout the interior. Colour is used emotionally rather than decoratively, with warm ambers, blush tones, deep blues, and metallic accents shifting subtly as light changes from day to night. These layered palettes give the space a sense of movement and mood, allowing it to evolve over time rather than remain fixed.
What lifts the project further is its subtle layering of Portuguese culture. In the guest rooms, playful details such as sardine-shaped cushions sit against more refined elements like delicate lace-inspired patterns. It is a thoughtful contrast, one that balances humour with heritage. These references are never overplayed, instead adding moments of personality that ground the hotel in its location.
Throughout, there is a clear design philosophy at work: integration, not interruption. The hotel does not attempt to compete with the coastline’s drama. Instead, it frames it, allowing the ocean, the cliffs and the ever-changing light to remain the focal point.

For OLISE, W Algarve represents a confident shift in luxury hospitality. It is bold without being overpowering, expressive yet deeply connected to place. A hotel that understands that true impact comes not from standing apart, but from belonging completely.
