TRENDS

The modern terrace and garden is no longer a simple boundary to our homes, but a seamless extension of the interior living space. In Paradise, we explore how leading design houses are shifting the paradigm of open-air living by marrying high-performance durability with a distinctly poetic aesthetic. By translating the luxury, comfort, and material intelligence of indoor spaces into the open air, these brands and designers create immersive sanctuaries that harmoniously connect human experience with the natural world.

Design by Tuuci

A masterclass in this philosophy comes from Miami-based shade architects Tuuci, who bring their long-standing heritage of nautically inspired engineering into the lifestyle space. Leading the charge is their Ocean Master MAX Bolero Ombré Blossom. This parasol acts as a striking, sculptural centerpiece for poolside settings, blending delicate design with enduring, marine-grade materials. The exterior is adorned with hundreds of outdoor-rated, hand-tufted blossoms that create a mesmerizing play of texture, softness, and movement under the sun.

Complementing this soft, floral shade structure is the Lulu Day Lounge. Echoing the same refined architectural detailing, this day lounge reinterprets the traditional beachside cabana as an opulent, private outdoor sanctuary. Framed in rich timber-look tones and draped in clean cream performance textiles, it is punctuated by heavy, cornflower blue stitching, tailored trims, and matching tassels that sway with the coastal breeze.

Italian outdoor haute couture brand DFN transforms exterior spaces into exclusive stage-sets of luxury and beauty. Conceived with the spirit of a couture Maison, DFN works with noble materials carefully selected and crafted with artisanal savoir-faire. The centerpiece of their aesthetic is the magnificent Eternal dining table from their collection featured on Artemest. Crafted from Santa Caterina travertine, this extraordinary stone utilizes its natural porosity to house an innovative backlighting system. As day turns to dusk, the table illuminates from within, casting golden reflections and a shifting scenographic atmosphere across the patio.

Injecting a vibrant narrative of cultural bridge-building into the outdoor dining conversation is Jwana Hamdan. Renowned for weaving Middle Eastern heritage with Italian design excellence, Hamdan’s outdoor pieces feel deeply grounded yet thoroughly modern. Her Aliya outdoor dining chair is a testament to this cross-cultural dialogue. Featuring a bold, terracotta red woven backrest, the chair balances tactile warmth with a clean, low-profile silhouette that mimics the comfort of an indoor dining salon.

A dramatic connection between raw nature and human comfort is captured by the Rock Residence project by INK+ORO Creatives. Rooted in the firm's signature mountain modern approach, the furniture setup bridges strength and serenity. The clean, minimalist low-slung outdoor sofas feature deep, plush cushioning wrapped in weather-resistant charcoal grey upholstery, bringing interior-grade comfort to an open deck space. Positioned directly along a striking black infinity pool, the arrangement grounds the living space effortlessly into a seven-acre wooded landscape, where architecture and nature exist in perfect, quiet confidence.

For a more intimate, nested experience with nature, the Magnolia project by Imparfait Design Studio demonstrates how a courtyard can become an enchanting green sanctuary. A long dining table is flanked by woven bistro chairs with classic black and white checkered patterns. Lush climbing vines and potted herbs enclose the area in rich greenery, while a heavy black iron lantern hangs overhead to cast a warm glow as evening sets in.

Design by Brandon Architects

The Bayview residence by Brandon Architects captures the true potential of an open coastal landscape. This expansive outdoor terrace uses an invisible glass balustrade to ensure the blue ocean horizon remains entirely unobstructed. Zoned like a high end penthouse, the space boasts a fully equipped monolithic black bar with timber topped stools underneath a sheltered white pavilion roof.

Bridging textile artistry and technical performance is the indoor-outdoor collection from Threads x Winch Design, created in collaboration with GP&J Baker. The custom patio lounge chair features plush cushions wrapped in premium performance upholstery that captures the shifting hues of earth, sand, and sky. The soft, neutral tones and organic textures of the scatter cushions are directly inspired by the gentle poetry of the natural world, engineering an effortless transition between interior and exterior environments.

Design by Visionnaire

The Kathryn collection by Visionnaire, introduces a rich, tactile conversation. The suite centres around a lounge armchair and matching storage pouf anchored by curved, sculptural solid teak wooden bases that cradle soft cream performance cushions. Encircling the chair is an intricate, handmade double intertwined hempen rope backrest, that reflects Italian artisanal heritage transformed into a collectible work of functional art.

This indoor-outdoor dialogue naturally reaches its absolute zenith when contextualized within world-class landscape architecture. In the serene hills of northern Thailand, the Four Seasons Resort Chiang Mai embeds luxury living entirely into an active landscape of sweeping, terraced rice fields and tropical green canopies. Here, poolside sunbeds sit flush against an organic valley backdrop, allowing the physical structures of leisure to melt completely into the environment.

Stepping into a fantastical, maximalist realm where surreal illustrations meet high-performance durability is the Wild Escape indoor-outdoor collection by Emma J. Shipley. The poolside sun loungers feature a dense, graphic pattern of exotic birds and stalking jungle cats, injecting an unapologetic splash of narrative depth into the open air. Overhead, a striking green botanical parasol trimmed with heavy white fringing catches the breeze, transforming the deck into a theatrical garden sanctuary.

Design by Ina Rinderknecht

A similarly breathtaking relationship between design and horizon is achieved in Ina Rinderknecht’s masterpiece, Luxusvilla Fernblick Appenzell. Perched above the rolling Swiss alpine meadows, the villa’s outdoor wellness terrace features a striking infinity bio-pool edged in crisp, geometric stone tiling. Bordered by wild purple flora, the water line seamlessly meets the open sky and distant mountain peaks, demonstrating that the ultimate luxury of modern outdoor design lies in framing, honouring, and ultimately becoming one with the landscape.

Furthering this celebration of organic shapes is the striking Sunbrella Tulip lounge chair. Sculpted to resemble an upside down tulip bulb, this cocooning accent seat brings pure drama to a poolside patio. The dark, textured woven shell features smooth circular cut-outs that open up views to the horizon while maintaining an intimate sense of shelter. Resting on a minimalist stone deck against a majestic mountain and lake backdrop, the deep white cushioning inside offers a soft, inviting nest that pairs seamlessly with an understated black trumpet side table.

Ultimately, these visionary collections remind us that our relationship with the outdoors is being entirely rewritten. No longer content with utility alone, today's open-air design demands the same emotional depth, structural bravery, and refined craftsmanship that we expect from the world's finest interiors. Whether through the dramatic brilliance of backlit marble, the rich narrative of hand-woven textiles, or a horizon line perfectly framed by architecture, crafting a personal paradise is about blurring the physical boundaries of the home. By taking our design language into the open air, the garden transforms from a place we simply look at, into an immersive, living landscape where style and nature exist in perfect harmony.
